Memory Cards/Drives

Card Readers
A Card reader is an extra piece of hardware which will plug directly into your computer, generally via a USB port and allow you to read the contents of a media card without the need to plug your camera into the PC. Many card readers will read a number of different media card formats but make sure, when buying, that the format of your camera's media card is supported.
Compact Flash Cards
The removable CF card is a popular Digital Camera photo storage system. Although they are larger than SD, Smart Media, XD Picture Card and Memory Sticks 'Professional' use has made them widely available and in very large sizes, currently up to 8 Gigabytes. A Compact Flash memory card can contain either flash memory or a miniature hard drive.
Memory Stick Cards
A memory card slightly smaller than a single stick of chewing gum. Like CompactFlash and SmartMedia, it is flash-based storage for your data, video, music and photos.
Secure Digital Memory Cards
Secure Digital (also known as SD) is a flash memory memory card format. SD cards are based on the older Multi Media Card (MMC) format, but add little-used DRM encryption features, allow for faster file transfers over the initial MMC speed, have small switch one the side that can stop the card from being overwritten, as well as being physically slightly thicker).
USB Flash Drives
A USB Flash Drive is essentially NAND-type flash memory integrated with a USB 1.1 or 2.0 interface used as a small, lightweight, removable data storage device. This hot-swappable, non-volatile, solid-state device is usually compatible with systems that support the USB version the drive uses.
